Your taste is killer

Becca just passed along to me this advice for young creatives from my favourite radio man, Ira Glass.

Yard Sale Success!

Fern Lane yard sale photos by Alex

Saturday's sale went swimmingly. We had a great turnout and I sold or gave away nearly all of my stuff! I could do this every weekend. I could live on a country highway and tarp my tables of wares during the week. Saturday would be my day to shine.

Rachael Speirs

Rachael was in the Hard Twist exhibition that I was part of last fall. She is an illustrator and textile artist who "works to convey the nostalgia of a well read, old and worn children's storybook, but with a macabre twist." I love that. Look at the lady giving the other one a kick!

The Brooklyn Circus

I'm going to be in New York City for a quick couple of days on my way to Greensboro. I'm starting a list of places I'd like to hit and this Brooklyn shop is on the top of it.

“The concept of ‘dipping your bucket where you stand’ [is from] a buddy of mine who told me this story that made so much sense when I was at a crossroad with the brand and with life. You go around the world and travel so much and go everywhere else looking for yourself, when the reality is that who you are and everything that you’ll ever be and all of the resources, are literally at your feet. Innovation, creating and building-  it’s all based on what you have. How do you continue to make what you do better? That’s really what that concept is about, and we’ve built The Brooklyn Circus exactly where we started.” via Life+Times

Wisdom

My cheeks are swollen and I've been slurping soup all weekend. I've been following the dentist's instructions, but am so tempted to try food that I can chew! My four little teeth will make a neat typedrawer memento.

Happy Mother's Day!

My mom and I at Peggy's Cove last summer. I love her so much. What a great mom.

Heather Benning - The Dollhouse

"The Dollhouse is a suite of 30 photographs that present the transformation of an abandoned farmhouse in rural Manitoba into a life-sized dollhouse. The photographs reveal a degraded wooden house in a flat empty field. Around the back of the house, an entire wall has been replaced with Plexiglas, revealing rooms that have been fully restored and furnished with decor dating from around the time the house was abandoned in 1968. The contrast in the exterior and interior speak to themes surrounding the passage of time, childhood play, memory, reclamation and nostalgia. The Dollhouse delves deeply into exploring the act of dwelling and engaging with a deep sense of place."

show runs May 2 - June 9 at Telephone Booth Gallery

Yesterday was a really nice day for a Nova Scotia drive.
