My mom passed away from cancer this summer. She was a really wonderful mom. She was an artist and an art teacher. She grew up in Sudbury, met my dad in Toronto and raised my sisters and me in Parry Sound. She collected things, read good books and listened to CBC radio. She encouraged us to be imaginative and creative and to take our own paths. She proofread my essays, gave me the best lines for artist statements and sent me postcards when I was far away. She was kind and good and loved us a lot.
