What Remains

I have not been very present on milk and bread these past couple of weeks because I have been finishing up my summer artist residency at the NSCCD. Thankfully, Jamie the angel has been picking up my slack. I have been working for 2 months on this series of embroidered objects inspired by belongings left behind after a death. The show, called Gathering, opened last night and I presented my work alongside the other 8 residences' pieces.

Gathering runs until October 2. You can see more of my work right here.

things i will keep forever

some photos i took last night.
i) natural rust knot
ii) handmade ceramic bowl i got at value village for $2.99. it's so beautiful.
iii) a round picture frame lined with cork. still have never seen anything like it. like a ship window
iiii) family hand-me-downs. belonged to my dad, but he knew i wanted it so he snuck into my room and placed it on my desk. the day i noticed, it seemed to be staring back at me. sitting so placidly. i will keep it forever and ever and ever.
iiiii) these tools were my great uncle's. the container is broken clothes pins kept together around a tin can with twist ties and pipe cleaner. gosh, straight to the heart.

fly

check these fly shoes. i want them both.

STUFFIES

i have an extended nervy b perusing etsy like i do, endless endless endless. check this masonic ring. pretty cool, huh? i bought the black ring. suits me, i think. it must be really hard makin' the move to buy something that actually needs to fit, like shoes or clothes. i can't bring myself to do it!

Federico de Vera

"The two galleries show a finely curated selection including Venetian glass, Japanese lacquer, ivory carvings, 18th century religious figures and antique jewelry. Another unique focus is de Vera jewelry incorporating rare antique elements such as Roman intaglios and Georgian brooches, with precious gemstones including rose-cut diamonds, baroque pearls and Sardinian coral."

chamilia jewelry

my sister and i got my mom a chamilia bracelet for her birthday. i perused the catalogue, and though i am not a big fan of the silver bracelets and wild blingy beads, their braided leather bracelets are lovely. i got myself one as a present for starting my brand new (first 'real') job. i quite like it - i even take it off when i take a shower, which is saying a lot for me. i have a baby wrist, so i tied two knots in it. i am definitely not putting any beads on it.

it goes very well with my brass cuff, which i was admiring this morning as being the most suited-to-me piece of jewelry i have ever seen. it goes well with my brass nugget ring from meghan, and the brass buckles on my dooney & burke bag.
